Meet Niki Dawson, Founder of Creative Crafting Academy

Creativity and entrepreneurship have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Iowa, where my parents owned our local newspaper. Starting around age 10, I was already helping at the paper. As I got older, I began designing advertisements for local businesses and selling advertising for the 5x80 County Bulletin. That early experience eventually led me to the University of Iowa, where I studied art and worked at The Daily Iowan.

After college, I continued combining creativity with business and started TaylorMade Web Creations LLC. For years, I’ve helped businesses through web design, graphic design, social media, and marketing.

A New Creative Adventure - 2026

Then came 2026—and I was ready for a new creative adventure. As a mom of three, I found myself entering a new stage of life. My two oldest were 18 and 22—one attending college close to home and the other preparing to move farther away—while my youngest was beginning third grade. For the first time in a long time, I knew I would have a little more time, and I wanted to do something creative with it. I wanted to get crafty again, but I also wanted to bring people together. I loved the idea of giving kids, teens and adults a reason to leave the house, put down their phones for a while, try something new, and enjoy creating alongside other people.

And that’s how Creative Crafting Academy began.

Creating, Connecting and Having Fun

Today, Creative Crafting Academy offers beginner-friendly DIY craft classes and creative workshops for teens, adults, and seniors. Our classes feature colorful mosaic art and mixed-media projects using tiles, fabric, flowers, beads, buttons, gems, and other inspiring materials.

Our Thursday evening creative workshops at Moksa Barrel House in Roseville offer a relaxed place to meet new people, spend time with friends, and create something beautiful. No artistic experience is required. We provide the materials, step-by-step guidance, and plenty of freedom to make each project your own.

In the winter of 2027 will be offering STEAM-based crafting classes and after-school programs for kiddos. These hands-on programs combine science, technology, engineering, art, and math while encouraging curiosity, creative thinking, problem-solving, and confidence.

Whether you are attending a mosaic art workshop, enjoying a moms’ or senior night out, joining an after-school program, or planning a private creative event, our goal is simple: to help people create, connect, and feel proud of what they make.

Creative Crafting Academy proudly offers craft classes and DIY creative workshops in Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, and throughout Placer County.
